Dandeli Unplugged: A Journey Through Nature, Adventure & Nostalgia

Nestled in the heart of Karnataka, Dandeli is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Amala and I took a three-day escape to this beautiful destination, which was nothing short of magical, filled with scenic beauty, thrilling activities, and cherished moments. Here’s a detailed account of our journey.

Day 1: 20th November 2024

A Scenic Start and Adventure Unfolds

Our journey began at 7:45 AM with great anticipation and excitement. The first stop was the peaceful Subrahmanya Temple in Haliyal, where the quiet ambiance set a perfect tone for the day.

A hearty breakfast awaited us at Hotel Panchamrut in Haliyal. The flavorful South Indian dishes fueled us for the adventures ahead. We then visited Amala’s Grandmother’s home.

A quick visit to my mom’s college and school allowed us to video-call her and show her the school and college where she studied. My mom shared stories of her college days, adding a personal touch to the trip. By noon, we arrived at Parampara Cottages, Dandeli, a charming retreat surrounded by lush greenery.

After check-in, we indulged in a delicious lunch at the resort’s restaurant, followed by some rest. The afternoon adventures began with a visit to Moulangi Eco Park, where the dense forest, rocky terrains, and serene river views mesmerized us. Adding to the thrill, we went go-karting at Moulangi.  It’s a 300-meter circuit track, and just 3 laps were disappointing.

As the evening set in, we stopped at the quirky Pokket Cafe to indulge in pizzas, French fries, and refreshing shakes. As Dandeli is my birthplace, my childhood memories came rushing back.  I could almost hear the festive laughter from years ago, when everyone gathered for Ravan Dahan during Dussehra.  Watching that towering effigy go up in flames, hearing the crackle of fire and the excited cheer of the crowd, is a moment forever etched in my heart.

Another vivid memory came rushing in — visiting the Dandakaranya Eco Park with my maternal grandfather during school vacations.

Being back in this region after so many years felt like opening a well-loved photo album. Every place, every scent, and every corner carried whispers of the past, making this trip not just a holiday but a heartfelt reunion with memories.

With happy hearts and full bellies, we returned to the resort by 6:45 PM.

The day ended with a delicious dinner under the stars and a cozy campfire: the crackling flames and laughter-filled conversations made for a perfect conclusion to our first day in Dandeli.

Day 2: 21st November 2024

Exploring Dandeli’s Wild Side

Day two began on an invigorating note with a 7:30 AM jungle walk. The fresh morning air, chirping birds, and dense greenery made this a serene and refreshing experience.

During our return walk to the cottage, we were treated to an unexpected and delightful sight—a pack of deer gracefully crossing the road. It was a moment of serene connection with nature, and we stood still, watching them vanish into the forest. This unexpected encounter became one of the most cherished highlights of the morning.

After the refreshing jungle walk, we returned to the resort for a relaxing morning by the swimming pool. Surrounded by lush greenery, the pool area was a tranquil oasis. The cool water was the perfect remedy for the rising temperatures, and we spent hours splashing around and unwinding.  The laughter and playful moments in the water added a joyful, carefree touch to the day, leaving us rejuvenated and ready for the adventures ahead.

By mid-morning, we were ready and headed to Ganeshgudi, known for its thrilling water activities.

We returned to the resort for a satisfying lunch, recharging ourselves for the much-anticipated jungle safari. As we set off in the safari jeep, the air was filled with excitement and the promise of spotting wildlife. While we didn’t encounter any big animals, the bumpy ride through the dense forest was an adventure. The towering trees, rustling leaves, and distant calls of birds created an enchanting backdrop, immersing us in the raw beauty of nature.

As the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow over the forest, we stopped for tea and biscuits near the safari booking counter. The warm tea, paired with the cool evening breeze, made for a perfect pause. We took this moment to share stories, laugh about the day’s adventures, and reflect on the simple joys of being surrounded by nature. It was a peaceful end to a day filled with exploration and connection to the wilderness.

Day 3: 22nd November 2024

Farewell with Final Adventures

Our final day in Dandeli began with a bittersweet check-out from Parampara Resort. Before leaving, we captured a group photo with the friendly resort staff as a token to remember our stay.

The day’s first destination was Shri Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Swamy Temple, a serene and spiritually enriching spot known for its tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty. The calm surroundings and cool breeze made it a perfect place to pause and soak in the peaceful vibes. After spending some time at the Ulavi Temple, we continued our journey to the breathtaking Syntheri Rocks.

Syntheri Rocks is a natural marvel that left us speechless. Towering rock formations, shaped by the forces of nature over centuries, stood tall in majestic grandeur. The sight of cascading waters flowing over the massive rocks added a dynamic and mesmerizing element to the landscape. The sound of the water, the cool mist in the air, and the sheer scale of the rocks created a surreal experience. It felt like standing in the presence of an ancient, powerful force of nature, a humbling reminder of the beauty and resilience of the natural world. We took plenty of photos, marveled at the intricate patterns in the rocks, and stood in awe, appreciating the stunning harmony of nature’s elements.

For lunch, we stopped at Hotel Pranaam in Ramnagar, a hidden gem for seafood lovers. The flavors were exquisite, making it a highlight of the day. A quick tea break in Khanapur refreshed us for the final leg of our journey.

By 7:30 PM, we were back home, bringing our Dandeli adventure to a close.

As we wrapped up our Dandeli journey and drove back home, our hearts were full with memories of misty forest trails, the rush of river adventures, quiet temple moments, and the warmth of campfire conversations, nostalgia from my childhood days, this road trip gave us more than just a break from routine; it offered a rare blend of thrill and tranquility, of reconnecting with nature and with each other.

Whether it was the sight of deer crossing our path at dusk, the laughter by the pool, or the towering beauty of Syntheri Rocks, every moment etched itself into our travel journal.
